Supersonic and Arena Joondalup present
Rock It
The kingsize, kongsize concert of the year!

Good times are comin'!!!!!!! Rock-It turns up to eleven with number 11; the kingsize, kongsize concert of the year.

Always reliable to only roll out the rock when someone special comes to town – Rock It was pleased as punch to follow the footsteps of Foo Fighters, Green Day, Jack Johnson, Powderfinger, Jet, Kings if Leon, Oasis, Silverchair and many more with the awesome awesomeness of our 2012 headliner THE BLACK KEYS.

Just like foodies match their wine – we’ve matched the rock and blues maelstrom of THE BLACK KEYS with an excellent day of Australian (and especially plenty of West Australian) rock and roll heroes.  We’ve got a combination of established hit-makers to keep you singing along and some of our most exciting emerging artists to keep you screaming and some incredible new blood that needs to be seen to be believed.

For those who like to explore new music, the world’s famous Kong’s Rock and Roll Shack takes up the slack on the Lawns of Love and presents some of the hottest, grittiest and authentic rock and roll available right now.

Best of all – it is designed to be a fun day with music in WA’s best and grassiest event arena that aims at nothing but good times.  Rock it is a WA owned and operated event that is an independent, great value, big production, single stage affair with a short, hot bill; old school style.  No fuss - just incredible music and every effort to keep it comfortable, simple, friendly and affordable.

So here are the bands……

THE BLACK KEYS are the hottest rock and roll act on the planet right now!  After selling out arenas all through the USA, Canada, UK and Europe and headlining Coachella and Lollapalooza and many other festivals they were very pleased to announce their long awaited return to Australia.  Their latest (and seventh) album ‘El Camino’ is selling truckloads everywhere and its infectious opening track ‘Lonely Boy’ is a certified global smash hit single and ‘Gold on the Ceiling’ isn’t too far behind it.  They’ll be bringing all these tracks and more to Australian audiences with their electrifying new live show.  The transformation of THE BLACK KEYS from a 2 piece garage band playing small clubs to being worthy headliners of arenas and festivals could not be more just or complete and proves that the pure combination of good times, great music and grit can still turn to gold.  Rest assured, you haven't see a show like this before. Get on it!

World beating, multi-platinum roots legend JOHN BUTLER TRIO makes a long awaited return to the Rock-It stage. For those who remember he played the side-stage on the very first Rock It in 1999 before he became a global phenomenon.  Around sunset expect sing-alongs and boogie-alongs from across his five albums including hits like Zebra, Better Than, Funky Tonight & One Way Road. He does good, he plays good and we are glad to have one of his rare big stage performances all to ourselves – an exclusive for 2012.

After months overseas recording a new record – it has been way too long between drinks for Australian audiences for BIRDS OF TOKYO.  Another band made in WA that has clocked up platinum sales and numerous accolades will also be brought home to rock it where they will smash out tracks from their illustrious career to date.  Expect more sing-alongs, air punching and i-phone cigarette light apps to be ablaze for huge Birds tracks like Plans, Broken Bones and Wild at Heart from across their three studio albums as well as some new treats. Watch this space!

Another act that set sail in WA and hasn’t looked back as they enjoy critical acclaim and various gongs like ARIA awards and gold certification are THE PANICS.  Critics in Australia and overseas rave about their live show and recordings so it will be a rare treat to get them back.  Watch the crowd sway to one of our greatest pop exports as they play tracks like “Don’t Fight It” and “No More Tears” from their four cracking albums.

This is just about the sweetest thing we can get away with at a rock and roll show like this but how sweet it is for an afternoon on the lawns at Arena Joondalup.  Fusing all the cool bits of blues/jazz/retro Americana/alt-country and rock, Lanies debut album “To the Horses” brought her to the attention of music lovers worldwide in 2011.  She’s tough, she’s cool and incredible live so she’ll have the audience in the palm of her hand with singles like What Do I Do, Ain't Hungry and  (Oh Well) That's What You Get (Falling in Love with a Cowboy)".

This Brisbane based band is creating a huge global buzz with their fresh take on indie power pop/rock and Perth has been lagging behind the rest of the world in opportunities to see this band and so we are very pleased to invite them exclusively to Rock It for the first time.  The 2012 album “In a Million Years” has put them on the map and there is much more to come. Check out the singles Time and Place, Zoom and Andy.

San Cisco are WA’s secret weapon. This super-young, super-good indie guitar pop band is fresh and fun and hit a nerve with the singles Golden Revolver and Awkward – the latter blitzing JJJ hottest 100 at #7 and garnering 1.5million Youtube hits.  Fortunately they also back up the buzz with a great live show and sold out national tours to prove it and so with hot new material on the way in late 2012 they could well be the next rock and roll superstars to come out of WA.

Another WA act that is electrifying industry and fans nationally and abroad is our very own Abbe May, the guitar slinging goddess with an atmospheric cocktail of sexy indie riff-rock, psychedelia and blues.  Abbe’s 2011 album ‘Design Desire’ stepped her up onto the international stage with the white hot singles ‘Mammalian Locomotion’, ‘Taurus Chorus’ and title track ‘Design Desire’.   The recordings speak for themselves but Abbe May live is a primal, electrifying and seductive rock show the you should never miss. Ever!  After six months of rehearsal and recording she will reveal her new show at this event so do not miss it!

Kong’s Rock and Roll Shack
This installation stage is on the lawns of love away from the main arena and is a chance for music enthusiasts to put some danger in their day.  Expect various combinations of swagger, grit, guitars, flannel, leather, denim, hats, chains and guitars but also expect nothing but some of the best and most exciting rock and roll in Australia right now.

These zeitgeist-straddling purveyors of DIY garage soul are one of the most exciting musical thing happening in Australia.  Sometimes fuss is for a reason. They are white hot.

Graveyard Train ripped chains and hammers from hell to forge the genre of Horror Country.  They are the pioneers of a new genre that will make you cry and curse and scream.  Ghost stories, murder ballads and tales of redemption are crooned through melodies plucked directly from the afterlife.  Haunted love, haunted souls, even haunted clothes are typical subjects covered by the songs of the Graveyard Train. These aren’t the kind of ghost stories kids tell around the campfire – they are the tales of horror whispered by inmates in the dark, the tales of bloodlust muttered by the insane, the tales of woe and regret whimpered through dying last words.  Six men play men’s instruments just as men were born to do. Chain, washboard, steel guitar, banjo and harmonica.

Brothers Grim are four blues hounds reviving 20s blues, in an unwholesome, moon howling, sweat dripping, groin shaking fervour.  It's been loosely described as..."Unwholesome sex voodoo delta blues-a-billy" or "Howlin' Wolf in an AC/DC T-shirt on too much cocaine".  Their reputation is based on their mutation of the blues with elements of rockabilly, swamp blues, delta blues and rock sensibilities...the rest is varying percentages of idol gossip, guilt, manic energy, slander, a fuel for freedom and a bias for doing things their own way.   The Brothers Grim are blues like you've never seen!

“This is the kind of music that's epiphany-inducing, almost overdosing on soul and character.”-  BEAT
The Toot Toot Toots are a riotous foot stompin’, horn honkin’, shimmy shakin’ freak out replete with go-go dancers, a brass section and the occasional mandolin.  They’ve just released a spaghetti western rock opera called Outlaws to much critical acclaim and seeing them should be on the list of things you need to do before you die.

Another WA band out there doing it around Australia and overseas but without any boot licking – just getting the gear in the van and winning people over down and dirty while the beards grow and the shirts fall off their backs.  This is all the good bits of rock, blues, folk and country rolled up into a gritty, deep and dangerous live band that turns music into moonshine.

We couldn’t do a major event in WA in 2012 without including the indie rock awesomeness of the Emperors.  The excellent debut ‘Stay Frosty’ is making big waves everywhere and we couldn’t be more pleased that they’ll be there to kick off Kong’s Rock and Roll Shack.
